At present, he is the technical manager of EMC S.r.l. in Genoa (Italy), a spin-off deriving from the activities conducted in collaboration with the Applied Electromagnetic Laboratories at the Department of Biophysical and Electronic Engineering, University of Genoa. Moreover, Dr. Azaro is a cooperator of the experimental activities of the ELEDIA Research Center. His main research interests are in electromagnetic compatibility and measurements.

Prof. Mailloux is a member of Tau Beta Pi, Eta Kappa Nu, Sigma Xi, Commission B of the International Scientific Radio Union, and is a Life Fellow of the IEEE. He was President of the Antennas and Propagation Society in 1983, and in 1992 he received the IEEE Harry Diamond Memorial Award. He received two IEEE AP-S Honorable Mention Best Paper Awards, the IEEE Third Millennium Medal and the AP-S Distinguished Technical Achievement Award. He has received four Air Force Research Laboratory "Best Paper" awards, the "Engineer of the Year" award, and is an AFRL Fellow. He has been a distinguished Lecturer for the Antenna and Propagation Society and is currently chairman of the AP-S/IEEE Press Liaison Committee.

Moreover, he is Adjunct Professor at Penn State University (USA), Professor @ CentraleSupélec (France), and UC3M-Santander Chair of Excellence at the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (Spain). He has been holder of a Senior DIGITEO Chair at L2S-CentraleSupélec and CEA LIST in Saclay (France), Visiting Professor at the Missouri University of Science and Technology (USA), the Nagasaki University (Japan), the University of Paris Sud (France), the Kumamoto University (Japan), and the National University of Singapore (Singapore). It has been appointed IEEE AP-S Distinguished Lecturer (2016-2018). He has been appointed in the Scientific Board of the “Società Italiana di Elettromagnetismo (SIEm)” and elected in the Scientific Board of the Interuniversity National Center for Telecommunications (CNIT). He has been appointed in 2011 by the National Agency for the Evaluation of the University System and National Research (ANVUR) as a member of the Recognized Expert Evaluation Group (Area 09, ‘Industrial and Information Engineering’) for the evaluation of the researches at the Italian University and Research Center for the period 2004-2010. Furthermore, he has been elected as the Italian Member of the Management Committee of the COST Action TU1208 “Civil Engineering Applications of Ground Penetrating Radar”. His research activities are mainly concerned with inverse problems, analysis/synthesis of antenna systems and large arrays, radar systems synthesis and signal processing, cross‐layer optimization and planning of wireless/RF systems, semantic wireless technologies, system-by-design and material‐by‐design (metamaterials and reconfigurable‐materials), and theory/applications of optimization techniques to engineering problems (tele-communications, medicine, and biology). Prof. Massa published more than 700 scientific publications (partial list available here) among which about 300 on international journals and more than 450 in international conferences where he presented more than 150 invited contributions. He has organized more than 70 scientific sessions in international conferences and has participated to several technological projects in the European framework (20 EU Projects) as well as at the national and local level with national agencies (more than 150 Projects/Grants). |

His research interests include theoretical and computational electromagnetics with applications to antenna theory and design, phased arrays, microwave devices, wireless and personal communication systems, wearable and e-textile antennas, conformal antennas, frequency selective surfaces, electromagnetic metamaterials, transformation electromagnetics/optics (the theoretical basis for invisibility cloaks), nature-inspired global optimization techniques applied to electromagnetic design problems, fractal electrodynamics (including fractal antennas), conformal and ultrawideband antennas, radar absorbing materials, frequency selective surfaces, and nanoscale electromagnetics (including nanoantennas). Werner's awards and honors include the inaugural Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Antennas and Propagation Society Edward E. Altshuler Prize Paper Award in 2011, the 2009 Penn State Outstanding Engineering Alumni Society (PSEAS) Premiere Research Award, the 2006 R.W.P. King Award for a co-authored paper published in the IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation, the 2002 PSEAS Outstanding Teaching Award, the 2000 PSEAS Outstanding Research Award, the 1994 Applied Research Laboratory Outstanding Publications Award, the 1993 Applied Computational Electromagnetics Society (ACES) Best Paper Award and a 1993 International Union of Radio Science Young Scientist Award. He has also received several Letters of Commendation from the Pennsylvania State University Department of Electrical Engineering for outstanding teaching and research. He was also presented with an IEEE Central Pennsylvania Section Millennium Medal. He is a Fellow of the IEEE, the IET (formerly IEE), and the ACES. Dr. Werner has published over 470 technical papers and proceedings articles and is an author and co-author of 13 books and book chapters including a book entitled Frontiers in Electromagnetics (Piscataway, NJ: IEEE Press, 2000) and Genetic Algorithms in Electromagnetics (Hoboken, NJ: Wiley/IEEE, 2007).
